About

I am husband to one, father to three and grandfather to two.

I am also the Teaching Elder at Bethany Place Baptist Church in North Chesterfield VA. Some while ago, a friend and I began sharing our daily reflections from scripture with each other for mutual accountability. I was so encouraged by the process I began sharing with some others I was discipling. I then offered them to our church body to those who requested them. Now that I’ve sustained this for a little more than a year, rather than continuing to send these by email, it seemed best to post them to a blog.

I send these reflections for a unique purpose. They are not so much my attempts to overtly teach, though I hope they will do that. Rather they provide a window into how one person wrestles with God each morning in prayer through scripture. The apostle Paul said on several occasions something like this, “follow me as I follow Christ.” I humbly send these reflections in that same spirit. I may focus on a short passage or long. I may go off on a tangent on some passage that I wouldn’t likely do in a sermon or Bible study. These are my personal reflections, so I’m trusting that if something I write confuses you, you will let me know and we can talk it through. Thank you for joining me and thank you for reading.

Also, because these reflections are shared directly from my morning spiritual disciplines, they will contain some grammatical errors. I knock off the really rough edges using Grammerly, but some errors will come through.

Most weeks I write five or six mornings. I rarely write on Sunday because I’m praying through the message for that morning.

In Christ,

Gene
